SPECIAL JOHN KNOX RANCH OPPORTUNITY!!!

John Knox Ranch still has spaces available for the Leadership Development Adventure Camps: Beach camp and High adventure.  The Leadership Development Adventure Camps are designed for rising 10th and 11th graders to explore their personal limits and the power of community in unfamiliar territory.  They are encouraged to return as rising 11th and 12th graders to continue challenging themselves in adventure camps or attend the second part of the Leaders in Development (LID) program where the focus shifts to servant leadership and camp leader skills.  Upon successful completion of the program, campers my apply to be members of the staff as Junior Counselors as rising 12th graders and high school graduates.

Beach Camp:  The beach adventure is held at First Presbyterian Church in Rockport with plenty of opportunities to practice basic and more advanced skills in sailing, surfing, and sandcastle-making (no experience necessary).  This adventure is recommended to any rising 10th or 11th grader who wishes to participate.

High Adventure:  The high adventure trip is for those who want to experience closer-to-home challenges.  This year we will be focusing on land and water sports such as water skiing, kayaking, and adventures on the high ropes course.  This adventure is recommended for anyone who wishes to participate.

If you sign up now, John Knox Ranch will give you a $50 discount on these amazing summer camp sessions.  These sessions are first come, first serve so sign up now!  Spaces are limited!  Scholarship money is also available upon request.

There is still room left in residential and day camp sessions as well, don't forget to sign up your kids!  (Special discount only applies to adventure camps, but scholarship money is available for everyone.)

HOUSE OF NEIGHBORLY SERVICE (HNS)
2009 “BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLIES” PROJECT

Summer has arrived and it’s that time of year again to start collecting school supplies for the House of Neighborly Services’ Annual “Back to School Supplies” Project benefitting children on the Westside of San Antonio. School supplies, or financial donations to purchase school supplies, are being requested of churches and individuals to ensure that 120 to 125 children in need are equipped with supplies for school. The children range from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade students.
Common items needed include:

Jumbo crayons
Regular crayons
4 oz and 8 oz. bottles of glue
Husky pencils
#2 pencils
Red lead pencils
Ballpoint pens (blue or black)
Colored map pencils
Boxes of markers
Pocket folders
Pocket folders with brads in various colors
Primary writing tablets (manuscript paper)
Loose-leaf notebook paper (wide rule)
Spiral notebooks (70 pages, wide rule)
Blunt end scissors
Pointed end scissors
Soft pink erasers
Pencil tip erasers
12” rulers (with centimeters)
Pint and gallon size zip lock bags
Bottles of antibacterial soap for hand
Washing
Large boxes of tissue
Toothbrushes
Tubes of toothpaste

About 18 to 20 sleeping mats for pre-kindergarten children are also needed.

All supply donations should be dropped off between now and Friday, August 7th at the:

House of Neighborly Service
407 N. Calaveras

Financial donations should be mailed to the latter address, and checks should be made payable to the House of Neighborly Service, specifying “Back to School” Project in the memo line.

If you have questions or need additional information, please contact Nancy Shaw, Rosalinda Mejia, or Eugenia Jacobo at 210-434-2301.
The school supplies will be distributed to families during the second and third weeks of August, just prior to the start of the new school year.
